Andy Pettitte seemingly does this every winter. But this time, it appears the Yankees need him more than he needs them.
Pettitte still hasn't decided whether he will pitch in 2011, and he reportedly was vacationing with his family in Hawaii after Christmas. The Yankees, who missed out on free agent target Cliff Lee, were left wondering if Pettitte will return for his 17th big-league season and what would be his 14th in the Bronx.
"Every day I hope Andy comes back," Yankees president Randy Levine told reporters on Dec. 28. "Andy's a great Yankee and a great person, and I know he'll give it thought and follow his heart and we'll respect his decision.
"But we're out there, all of us, hoping every day that he comes back.
