Yankees scratch Martin with sore toe (AP)

New York Yankees catcher Russell Martin(notes) fires to first after a dropped ball on a strike out by Seattle Mariners' Carlos Peguero(notes) in the fourth inning of a baseball game Saturday, May 28, 2011, in Seattle.

The New York Yankees have scratched catcher Russell Martin from the starting lineup because of a sore left big toe. Martin was originally slated to bat sixth against the Oakland Athletics on Monday. But the team announced about an hour before first pitch that he is hurt and will be replaced by Francisco Cervelli in the lineup.

MLB Note – New York Yankees Rivera, Mariano (Yahoo! Sports)

Mariano Rivera took his first loss of the season when he allowed a bases-loaded single in the 12th inning against Seattle. After retiring the first batter of the inning, Rivera gave up three hits, plus an intentional walk, as his ERA rose to 2.11, its highest level this month.

Mariners take down Yankees 5-4 in 12 innings (AP)

Adam Kennedy knew the cutter was coming from Mariano Rivera. He just happened to drop it in the perfect spot. Kennedy scored pinch-runner Luis Rodriguez with a bloop single off Rivera in the bottom of the 12th inning and the Seattle Mariners won for the ninth time in 10 games with a 5-4 victory over the New York Yankees on Saturday night.
