Cashman, Epstein happy they can now do business (AP)

Brian Cashman and Theo Epstein say after years of being on opposite sides of baseball's most bitter rivalry, they are looking forward to being able to make deals with one another. The Yankees general manager and the former general manager of the Red Sox appeared together at a forum Tuesday at Sacred Heart University.

Former Cubs GM Jim Hendry hired by Yankees (AP)

Former Chicago Cubs general manager Jim Hendry was hired Tuesday to be a special assignment scout for the New York Yankees. Hendry spent 17 seasons with the Cubs and was GM from July 2002 until he was fired on Aug. 18, unable to help the team win the World Series for the first time since 1908. Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said he believes Hendry will be an invaluable resource.

Lunch went well for Roy Oswalt and the Texas Rangers in a Monday face-to-face meeting, according to an ESPN.com report. Oswalt, his wife, Nicole, and agent, Bob Garber, met Rangers general manager Jon Daniels and CEO and president Nolan Ryan.

Selig expects expanded playoffs to start this year (AP)

Commissioner Bud Selig expects baseball to expand its playoffs this season. Players and owners have already agreed to add an additional wild-card team in each league, but are still deciding whether it would take effect this year or in 2013. Selig said there are scheduling issues to be worked out -- once they are, the new 10-team format would begin with a one-game playoff.
