Derek Jeter has pulled himself from the All-Star game. The New York Yankees' shortstop says he wants to rest while coming back from a strained calf. He was elected by fans to start for the American League. Jeter is two hits from 3,000 going into Friday night's game against Tampa Bay. Jeter has been moved down from the leadoff slot and will bat second against the Rays.

Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez, Robinson Cano and Curtis Granderson of the Yankees were elected by fans in the American League.
