Along with a new uniform, Jose Reyes has a new, close-cropped look. The All-Star shortstop had his dreadlocks trimmed during a nationally televised haircut Friday on the MLB Network. "A little bit lighter. It's going to take me a couple of days to get used to it," Reyes said. He left the New York Mets in December for a $106 million, six-year contract with the Miami Marlins.

Martin and Yankees agree at $7.5 million (AP)

All-Star catcher Russell Martin and the New York Yankees avoided salary arbitration when they agreed to a $7.5 million, one-year contract. The deal, announced Tuesday, was $100,000 under the midpoint between the $8.2 million he had asked for in arbitration and the $7 million the Yankees had offered when proposed salaries were exchanged last week.

Chamberlain, Robertson agree to deals with Yankees (AP)

Relievers Joba Chamberlain and David Robertson have agreed to one-year contracts with the New York Yankees. Chamberlain, recovering from elbow ligament replacement surgery, gets $1,675,000 under Tuesday's agreement, up from $1.4 million last year. Robertson, who became an All-Star as Mariano Rivera's setup man in a breakout season, will earn $1.6 million, an increase from $460,450.

Saunders, Kuo and Scott become free agents (AP)

Former All-Star pitchers Joe Saunders and Hong-Chih Kuo, and Baltimore outfielder Luke Scott became free agents Tuesday after their teams declined to offer 2012 contracts. Atlanta reliever Peter Moylan and St. Louis infielder Ryan Theriot also were among the 30 players set free when their teams failed to offer deals before the midnight EST deadline.

Yanks’ Murcer honored by Oklahoma Christian (AP)

Before he passed away, former New York Yankees great Bobby Murcer gave his advice and some inspiration to Oklahoma Christian on how it could revive its dormant baseball program. The school paid him back Friday by naming a new indoor practice facility in his honor. It includes memorabilia from his careers as an All-Star outfielder and an Emmy-winning broadcaster.
