Fla. man captures record for most signed baseballs (AP)

Assembling more than 4,000 autographed baseballs, it turns out, may not have been as tough a task for Dennis Schrader as proving the collection was a world record. The Guinness Book of World Records originally rejected Schrader's claim because the signatures on all 4,020 balls couldn't be authenticated.

Porcello’s 2 poor pitches pounced on by Yankees (AP)

Rick Porcello pitched a couple balls over the middle of the plate, and the New York Yankees took advantage. Derek Jeter drilled one of Porcello's miscues for a two-run double in the third inning, and Curtis Granderson crushed another for an RBI double in the fifth. New York took control early and routed the Detroit Tigers 10-1 Tuesday night to even their AL division series at two games apiece.

Sabathia gets back on track; Yankees top Twins 8-4 (AP)

The New York Yankees have had no trouble sending balls in the seats this season, even with Alex Rodriguez's power drop-off and injury absence. CC Sabathia stopped his two-start losing streak with nine strikeouts over seven innings, and the Yankees hit three home runs to support him in an 8-4 victory over the depleted Minnesota Twins on Thursday night.

Mariners lose 17th straight, striking out 18 times (AP)

The Seattle Mariners flailed at balls high and low, watched called third strikes and checked their swings too late against CC Sabathia. When they had the bases loaded and none out against David Robertson in the eighth, they swung and missed some more. Mariano Rivera had the same effect: a big zero. All the futility at the plate added up to a 17th straight loss for the Mariners.

Baltimore Orioles manager Buck Showalter is critical of Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter and Boston Red Sox general manager Theo Epstein in a magazine interview.
