Pitching coach Dave Eiland has been fired by the New York Yankees, the first move in what should be a busy offseason in the Bronx after a disappointing loss in the American League championship series. General manager Brian Cashman would not divulge a reason for letting Eiland go after his third year as the team's pitching coach.

Yankees pitching coach Eiland returns (AP)
Pitching coach Dave Eiland has rejoined the Yankees after taking nearly a month off to attend to what he described as a personal private matter. Eiland says he was able to keep up with the Yankees while he was away. Starter A.J. Burnett in particular seemed to struggle, losing all five starts since Eiland left June 4.
