After signing right-handed starter Phil Hughes to a one-year, $3.25 million contract, the New York Yankees signed relievers David Robertson and Joba Chamberlain to one-year deals as well to avoid arbitration, the team announced Tuesday afternoon.

Relievers Joba Chamberlain and David Robertson have agreed to one-year contracts with the New York Yankees. Chamberlain, recovering from elbow ligament replacement surgery, gets $1,675,000 under Tuesday's agreement, up from $1.4 million last year. Robertson, who became an All-Star as Mariano Rivera's setup man in a breakout season, will earn $1.6 million, an increase from $460,450.

Mariners lose 17th straight, striking out 18 times (AP)

The Seattle Mariners flailed at balls high and low, watched called third strikes and checked their swings too late against CC Sabathia. When they had the bases loaded and none out against David Robertson in the eighth, they swung and missed some more. Mariano Rivera had the same effect: a big zero. All the futility at the plate added up to a 17th straight loss for the Mariners.

AL manager Ron Washington said he was taking the Yankees reliever, who has 56 strikeouts in 35 1-3 innings. Nunez, bullpen lift Yanks to 9-5 win over Seattle (AP)

Eduardo Nunez will certainly remember his first big league hit, when he drove in the go-ahead run at Yankee Stadium in place of Yankees star Alex Rodriguez. He might get a few more chances, too, now that A-Rod's on the disabled list. Nunez singled in the seventh inning Saturday, breaking open a tie game and helping New York to a 9-5 win over the Seattle Mariners.

Sabathia wins 15th as Yankees edge Royals (AP)

After CC Sabathia was dominant for more than eight innings, David Robertson got the biggest out of the game. Sabathia picked up his 15th victory, Austin Kearns homered and the New York Yankees held off the Kansas City Royals 4-3 on Thursday night.
