Teixeira, Garcia lead Yankees past Rangers 5-2 (AP)

Freddy Garcia's first scheduled start this season was wiped out by rain. The weather wasn't much better when he finally got another chance to take the mound. Garcia allowed two hits over six innings in his Yankees debut, Mark Teixeira drove in three runs and New York held off the Texas Rangers 5-2 on a bone-chilling Saturday in the Bronx.

Remember the old black-and-white cowboy movies on TV? I always sided with the Indians, anyway, so I didn't pay much attention to the gringos lining up to shoot each other in the dusty streets. I knew the cowboy with the white hat and the whitest skin was supposedly the "good guy." The bad guy was reportedly identifiable by his black hat. But I always remember him as wearing a long coat too, a "duster," and so that's what I've come to call a shut-down closer: a Duster .

Rafael Soriano made a nice first impression. The New York reliever made his initial spring training appearance, allowing one hit in a scoreless fifth inning of the Yankees' 4-2 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday night. The primary eighth-inning setup for closer Mariano Rivera, Soriano was touched for a two-out single by Andrew McCutchen.

Yanks’ Martin catches an impressive Colon (AP)

Russell Martin had not crouched behind a plate in a big league game since he injured his hip in August, and he was pretty nervous for his debut with the New York Yankees. Bartolo Colon made it real easy on him. Martin caught five smooth innings, including three thrown by an impressive Colon, but the Yankees lost 5-3 to a lineup of Boston Red Sox backups Friday night.
