Yankees-Orioles DH on Saturday postponed to Sunday (AP)

The split doubleheader Saturday between the New York Yankees and Baltimore Orioles has been postponed because of the expected bad weather associated with Hurricane Irene. The afternoon game will be held on Sept. 8, previously an off day for both teams. The time of that game will be announced later. The game originally scheduled for Saturday night will become part of a split doubleheader on Sunday.

The time has come for MLB to can the designated hitter (Associated Content)

In 1973 Major League Baseball wanted to jump start offense in the game and came up with the designated hitter, but only in the American League. Ron Blomberg of the New York Yankees was the first official DH and he has been followed by a long line of talented hitters. Paul Molitor, Dave Winfield, Edgar Martinez, David Ortiz, and Jim Thome, to name just a few, all have extended their careers by being a DH. Although the DH was great for them, I think it is time to give up the experiment and do away with the DH.

Yankees put DH Berkman on DL with sprained ankle (AP)

Designated hitter Lance Berkman was placed on the 15-day disabled list Thursday by the New York Yankees because of a sprained right ankle. The move was made before the team's series finale against Detroit and is retroactive to Aug. 16, the day after Berkman rolled his ankle while stumbling across first base as he tried to beat a throw in Kansas City.
