Andy Pettitte threw a scoreless inning in his first game since ending a one-year retirement and the New York Yankees beat the New York Mets 8-3 on Wednesday. Many of the announced crowd of 10,813 at Steinbrenner Field gave Pettitte a standing ovation when took the mound to start the sixth. The left-hander allowed one baserunner, coming on Cory Vaughn's leadoff single to right.

Swisher homers in minor league game, goes 4-for-8 (AP)

New York Yankees right fielder Nick Swisher went 4-for-8 with a home run Wednesday in his first game since being sidelined by a groin injury a week ago. Swisher had two singles, a double and an opposite field home run to left. He had two walks, batting in both the top and bottom of the inning during the intrasquad game between Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and Double-A Trenton.
