Braves release OF Cabrera, RHP Saito (AP)

The Atlanta Braves released outfielder Melky Cabrera in a curious decision Tuesday and also let go of right-hander Takashi Saito. The 26-year-old Cabrera hit .255 with four homers and 42 RBIs and started in 115 games during the regular season, then went 0 for 8 against San Francisco in the NL division series.

Thames powers Yankees past White Sox (AP)

CC Sabathia has picked up the Yankees several times this season with dominant performances on the mound. This time, New York's bruising lineup did most of the work. Sabathia became the majors' first 18-game winner, Marcus Thames hit two of New York's four homers and the Yankees beat the Chicago White Sox 12-9 on Saturday night.

Hernandez shuts down Yankees in 7-0 win (AP)

Felix Hernandez threw a wild pitch and handcuffed his catcher for a passed ball in the first inning. With all that movement, he knew things would be all right. Wow, were they. Hernandez pitched a two-hitter and struck out 11 to follow Cliff Lee's gem, and the Seattle Mariners secured their first road series win since April, beating the New York Yankees 7-0 Wednesday night.
