Eric Chavez was signed to a major league contract by the New York Yankees on Monday, March 29, after hitting .405 in 17 games this spring. The infielder came to the Yankees this year, after spending his career with the Oakland A's. A former star player, injuries have derailed Chavez's career. Since 2007, the infielder has only played in 154 games. With Alex Rodriguez at third, and Mark Teixeira at first, the Yankees are well-manned on the corners.

Belliard agrees to minor league deal with Yankees (AP)

Infielder Ronnie Belliard has agreed to a minor league contract with the New York Yankees. The 35-year old Belliard hit .216 with two homers and 19 RBIs in 82 games last season for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Belliard also received an invitation to the Yankees' major league spring training camp. He was placed on the Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre roster Thursday.

The Texas Rangers have added left-handed relievers Michael Kirkman and Clay Rapada to their roster for the AL championship series against the New York Yankees. Yankees trade for slugger Berkman, reliever Wood (AP)

Lance Berkman is ready for the expectations that go with wearing the pinstripes. The New York Yankees sent reliever Mark Melancon and minor league infielder Jimmy Paredes to Houston on Saturday for the five-time All-Star first baseman, who will become the Yankees' designated hitter. Houston will pay $4 million as part of the deal.
