Whoops! Berkman falls at 1B in place of Teixeira (AP)

Lance Berkman lay flat on his back on the warning track behind first base as a hushed Yankee Stadium crowd watched nervously. Yankees put DH Berkman on DL with sprained ankle (AP)

Designated hitter Lance Berkman was placed on the 15-day disabled list Thursday by the New York Yankees because of a sprained right ankle. The move was made before the team's series finale against Detroit and is retroactive to Aug. 16, the day after Berkman rolled his ankle while stumbling across first base as he tried to beat a throw in Kansas City.
