Yankees beat Reds 4-2 in DH opener (AP)

A lot had happened since the last time Jorge Posada hit a homer. The catcher-turned-DH lost his spot as the Yankees' extra hitter. He was dropped to ninth in the order and took himself out of the lineup for one day, prompting a spat with the front office and an apology. He'd been reduced to pinch hitting and playing sporadically.

Fan’s view: Four three-game weekend series highlight Cards-Cubs rivalry (Associated Content)

Cards and Cubs Outlook St. Louis Cardinals fans, like myself, will have three weekend series in St. Louis with the Chicago Cubs. The 2011 Redbird home baseball schedule has a June 3-5, July 29-31 and September 23-25 match-up with the Cubbies. The Cubs will host only one weekend series between the two teams, that being August 19-21. I can't remember the last time this happened on the schedule. Rivalry Continues Many individuals talk about the New York Yankees-Boston Red Sox and San Francisco Giants-Los Angeles Dodgers rivalries.

Rocky 1st inning hurts Sabathia; Yankees recover (AP)

CC Sabathia was so bad in the first inning of the AL championship series Friday night that his best pitch might have been one that bounced off the backstop. It sure wasn't the one that Josh Hamilton put over the wall. Or the four in a row that walked the No. 8 hitter. Pitching nine days after his last outing, Sabathia opened the ALCS looking like anything but the ace who led the New York Yankees...

Kings of the Hill: 2010 now is Year of the Pitcher (AP)

Warm night at Citizens Bank Park, midweek game in mid-June. Chris Coghlan steps in for the Marlins, slaps a ground ball up the middle. A little leadoff single, a big reaction by his Florida teammates. "When Coghlan got the hit, the whole dugout cheered," ace Josh Johnson said. OK, perhaps it was something special -- the last time the Marlins faced Roy Halladay, he threw a perfect game at...
