Derek Jeter has set a major league record for the most games played at shortstop for one team. Jeter played in his 2,303rd game at shortstop for the New York Yankees on Saturday night at Texas. It was his 2,324th career game overall since his major league debut in 1995. Cal Ripken Jr. played in 2,302 games at shortstop during 21 seasons for Baltimore.

Indians’ Tomlin tops Yankees in MLB debut 4-1 (AP)

If Josh Tomlin was in awe of Alex Rodriguez and the mighty New York Yankees, he didn't show it. Tomlin took a shutout into the eighth inning against A-Rod and the rest of New York's potent lineup to win his major league debut with the Cleveland Indians, 4-1 on Tuesday night. "That was an outstanding effort by the kid," Indians manager Manny Acta said.

On the 16th anniversary of his major league debut, Alex Rodriguez again left Seattle buzzing. This time the Yankees star simply extended a miserable season for the Mariners. Rodriguez punched a two-run single into right field in the ninth inning to give the Yankees their first lead, and Mariano Rivera closed out New York's 3-1 victory Thursday night.
