He stands at a towering 6-6, weighing in at 234 pounds. His father is former major league first baseman, John Mayberry Sr. He swings the bat with a smooth stroke, and shows good speed to match his power. John Mayberry Jr., 27, has been a member of the Philadelphia Phillies' organization since 2009, and has had a successful career in the minors since being drafted in 2005 by the Texas Rangers and being assigned to the Spokane Indians. He has shown much potential over the years, and to me, his performance this spring is one of the pleasant surprises.

The Cubs will host only one weekend series between the two teams, that being August 19-21. I can't remember the last time this happened on the schedule.
