Marlins’ new ballpark figures to be pitchers’ park … right? (Yahoo! Sports)

The Miami Marlins are hoping their new ballpark will play much like their old one. The new ballpark is more than 90 percent complete, but the field is still covered with piles of dirt. Sod will be installed in the next month, which should provide ample growing time.

Saunders, Kuo and Scott become free agents (AP)

Former All-Star pitchers Joe Saunders and Hong-Chih Kuo, and Baltimore outfielder Luke Scott became free agents Tuesday after their teams declined to offer 2012 contracts. Atlanta reliever Peter Moylan and St. Louis infielder Ryan Theriot also were among the 30 players set free when their teams failed to offer deals before the midnight EST deadline.

The rainy season rolls on. The playoff opener between the Detroit Tigers and New York Yankees was suspended because of rain in the second inning Friday night, wiping out the ace of each pitching staff for a few days. Yankees promote RHP Noesi, 3 others from Triple-A (AP)

The New York Yankees have promoted right-handed pitchers Hector Noesi, George Kontos and Andrew Brackman and outfielder Greg Golson from Triple-A. Noesi, Brackman and Golson were recalled from Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Tuesday. Kontos had his contract selected from the International League team. Noesi is 2-0 with a 3.42 ERA in 24 games for the Yankees this season.
