Former Blue Jays pitching coach Mel Queen dies (AP)

Mel Queen, a former Toronto Blue Jays pitching coach and manager who rejoined the organization in 2008 at its player development senior adviser, has died. He was 69. The cause of death was not divulged. Queen was an outfielder who became a pitcher and played for both the Cincinnati Reds (1964-69) and California Angels (1970-72).

Leyritz hired as Newark Bears pitching coach (AP)

Though he was primarily a catcher in the major leagues, former New York Yankees World Series hero Jim Leyritz is the new pitching coach for the minor league Newark Bears. Recently cleared of criminal charges from a fatal 2007 car accident, Leyritz will take over the pitching staff of the Can-Am League team for which he once played.

Rothschild leaves Cubs to become Yanks coach (AP)

Larry Rothschild couldn't resist the chance to spend spring training at home. So he quit as pitching coach of the Chicago Cubs on Friday to take the same job with the New York Yankees. "I didn't feel like it was time to leave the Cubs. It was time family-wise when this opportunity came along that the decision became relatively easy because of that," he said.

Red Sox hire Young as pitching coach (AP)

The Boston Red Sox hired Oakland pitching coach Curt Young for the same position on Tuesday, impressed with his work with the Athletics over the years. Young helped the A's post the best ERA in the American league over the past seven seasons. They had an AL-best 3.56 ERA this year, when they led the league with 17 shutouts and allowed the fewest hits (1,315) and runs (626).
