House passes resolution honoring Yankees’ Sheppard (AP)
Congress is honoring the late Yankee Stadium public-address announcer Bob Sheppard. New York congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy introduced the resolution on Tuesday in tribute to his lifetime achievement. It was passed by the House of Representatives. Sheppard died in July at 99. He started as the Yankees' PA announcer in 1951 and worked his last game in 2007.
Yankees plan Friday tribute to Steinbrenner (AP)
The Yankees plan a Friday night tribute to George Steinbrenner when the team returns home for the first time since the owner's death. The team said Thursday there will be pregame tributes to Steinbrenner and longtime public address announcer Bob Sheppard before New York plays Tampa Bay at Yankee Stadium.

GM Cashman: Boss ‘made me everything I am today’ (AP)
Brian Cashman was a very visible target of George Steinbrenner's demanding style. "He made me everything I am today," the New York Yankees general manager said Thursday. "He was a man that could move mountains. He was a man that did move mountains." The Yankees owner died Tuesday of a heart attack at age 80.

Yankees to honor Steinbrenner, Sheppard (AP)
The New York Yankees say they will wear patches on their uniforms honoring the memory of owner George Steinbrenner and longtime public address announcer Bob Sheppard. The 80-year-old Steinbrenner died Tuesday of a heart attack. Sheppard passed away Sunday. He was 99. The Steinbrenner patch will be work above the interlocking NY on the pinstriped home uniform and above the "York" on the road...

In a story July 11 about the death of Yankees' public address announcer Bob Sheppard, The Associated Press reported erroneously that Kansas City was the opponent in his final game. The opponent was the Seattle Mariners.

Bob Sheppard, whose stylish, elegant stadium introductions of New York Yankees from Joltin' Joe to Derek Jeter spanned more than a half century and earned him the nickname "The Voice of God," died Sunday. He was 99. Sheppard, a gentle man who spoke with the sonorous authority of a giant, died at his Long Island home in Baldwin with his wife, Mary, at his side, the Yankees said.
