Yankees finalize Ibanez deal, agree with Chavez (AP)

The Yankees finalized a $1.1 million, one-year contract with Raul Ibanez and reached a $900,000, one-year deal to keep Eric Chavez. Ibanez's deal, announced Tuesday, includes $2.9 million in performance bonuses. A 39-year-old outfielder who played with Philadelphia the previous three seasons, Ibanez hit .245 last year with 20 homers and 84 RBIs.

Burnett has been shipped off to western Pennsylvania and the Pittsburgh Pirates have agreed to pay $13 million of the $33 million owed to him over the next two seasons, the New York Yankees are " closing i n on adding Raul Ibanez as the left-handed hitting option for their designated hitter role," according to MLB.com. "The preference would be to find someone from the left side that can do some damage against right-handed pitching, but ... in the event we have injuries that hit in-season, that my manager could put out for defense," Yankees GM Briand Cashman said on Sunday, the site reports. The Yankees will also likely re-sign 34-year-old Eric Chavez to serve as a backup corner infielder. Chavez batted .263 with two homers and 26 RBIs in 58 games for New York last year. Yankees considering Bill Hall? ()

The New York Yankees are seeking a utility player and the New York Daily News has heard that they are considering 32-year-old Bill Hall, who has played for five teams since entering the majors in September of 2002. Hall has spent time with the Milwaukee Brewers, Seattle Mariners, Boston Red Sox, Houston Astros and San Francisco Giants over his career, compiling a .248 batting average. Last year, he played for the Astros and the Giants, batting .211 with two homers, three stolen  bases and 14 RBIs in 62 games. In 2010, he hit 18 homers for Boston. Back in 2006, he had his career year, hitting 35 homers and 39 doubles with a .291 average. Hall still had "a couple of teams" to consider as of Monday, the Daily News reports, and the Yankees could still end up just re-signing Eric Chavez to fill the spot.
