Garcia shuts down Red Sox, Yanks win 9-1 (AP)
Freddy Garcia wants to keep starting for the Yankees. The 35-year-old right-hander pitched six scoreless innings Saturday in his last regular-season outing, helping New York beat the Boston Red Sox 9-1 and improving his chances of earning a postseason start. "I need to pitch good today," Garcia said.
Hughes makes case to stay in Yankees’ rotation (Yahoo! Sports)
New York Yankees right-hander Phil Hughes did what he had to do to save his job on Tuesday night, pitching his best game of the season in a rain-shortened 6-0 win over the White Sox. Hughes gave up three hits over six scoreless innings, striking out four without issuing a walk.

Scherzer impressive, Tigers beat Yankees 4-0 (AP)
After a rough start last month at Yankee Stadium, Max Scherzer insisted he pitched better than his stats showed. Back in the more spacious confines of Comerica Park, the right-hander had no trouble shutting down New York. Scherzer pitched eight scoreless innings, and Magglio Ordonez homered for the first time this season to lead the Detroit Tigers to a 4-0 win over the Yankees on Wednesday night.

Tommy Hanson had his third consecutive solid start, allowing one run and five hits in four innings and the Atlanta Braves beat a New York Yankees spilt squad 6-2 on Friday.
