Lopez vs. Hamilton could be key Series matchup (AP)

Giants manager Bruce Bochy might have a better alternative than simply walking Josh Hamilton in key spots during the World Series. Sidearming lefty Javier Lopez neutralized Philadelphia's left-handed sluggers in the NL championship series and looks to do the same this week against Hamilton and the Texas Rangers.

Thames’ homer lifts Yankees to 8th straight win (AP)

Marcus Thames is making the most of every opportunity to play, a big reason the New York Yankees are rolling right along without several injured All-Stars. Thames launched a tiebreaking homer in the seventh inning and New York beat the Toronto Blue Jays 7-5 on Saturday to set a season high with its eighth straight victory.

A-Rod celebrates 600 with accomplished students (AP)

Alex Rodriguez wanted to celebrate his 600th home run with six other high achievers -- no, not those six sluggers. A-Rod was thinking of a group closer to home. The three-time MVP had lunch at Yankee Stadium with six superb students from the Bronx Preparatory Charter School on Sunday before New York played the Boston Red Sox.
