Cliff Lee walked his first and last batters Sunday. In between, the Texas Rangers' left-hander was in control against the New York Yankees. Lee pitched into the ninth inning in his first start after missing a turn with a sore back, helping the Rangers to a 4-1 victory and a three-game sweep of the world champs. "I wanted to go out there and get us as deep in the game as I could and put up as many zeroes as I could," Lee told reporters.

With St. Louis Cardinals star Albert Pujols hitting his 400th career homer and Alex Rodriguez having recently reached the 600-homer mark, now is a great time for a guy who served up a homer to each slugger to compare and contrast the two future Hall of Famers: Facing A-Rod Rodriguez did minimal damage against me in my career. He hit one homer, but it was a big one. It was a grand slam in extra innings when I was with the Boston Red Sox and he was with the Texas Rangers.

The Yankees plan to honor George Steinbrenner with a monument in Yankee Stadium's Monument Park, according to MLB.com. There will be a dedication ceremony before the team's Sept. 20 game against the Rays. In a statement released today, the Steinbrenner family expressed their gratitude to George and the fans: "We remain profoundly grateful and touched by the many expressions of sympathy and support from so many. We wish to thank everyone for their kind thoughts and prayers, which we continue to hold close.
