Even those who didn't know Mike Flanagan couldn't help but feel the emotion that swept through Camden Yards on Friday night. The Baltimore Orioles celebrated the life of their former pitcher before and during their 12-5 win over the New York Yankees. Afterward, it was evident that the victory would have been far sweeter under different circumstances.

Thames’ homer lifts Yankees to 8th straight win (AP)

Marcus Thames is making the most of every opportunity to play, a big reason the New York Yankees are rolling right along without several injured All-Stars. Thames launched a tiebreaking homer in the seventh inning and New York beat the Toronto Blue Jays 7-5 on Saturday to set a season high with its eighth straight victory.

Yankees’ long balls give Phil Hughes his 10th win (AP)

Phil Hughes was angry. With the New York Yankees leading in the fifth inning, there was no way he was going to let Jose Reyes get the best of him again. Instead of going with his fastball one more time, the right-hander threw a looping curve that dropped Reyes to a knee as he swung through it for strike three.
