So the Yankees have finally pulled it all together and started making an actual run at the division title. Once again New York got a late start. It seems like every year the team coasts through the first half of the season until they just about reach the point of no return. That point where the team is not statistically out of it but the realistic chance of catching up with the division leader, barring a run like the Amazin’ Mets in ’69 or the Colorado Rockies last season, is foregone.

This season the early run by the Red Sox appears to have forced the sleeping giants, or the napping 200+  million dollar payroll, to wake up early. Also the early success by the Tampa Bay Rays probably helped.

Two weeks ago it looked like the Yankees were going to struggle all season long just to maintain a .500 record, but now the Evil Empire has awaken. They are starting to play the kind of baseball everyone at Yankee Stadium expects, especially in the classic Major League Baseball stadium’s last season. It is nice that the stadium gets to host the All Star game, but it would be much better if Yankee stadium would see a deep playoff run that could potentially take the team to the World Series.
